A Slip of the Handling is a table top styling session to animate the thoughts, gestures, and feelings that go into my design process for my clothing line RedShift. Giving another look at the designed object, the table top becomes a playground where materials come within reach of hand and eye and the thing made goes through a blurry process of valuation. How can the value of an object be established when its function is still in process? For me the photo session serves as a bartering act between the photographer/camera and myself, creating a state of fixation on the object while rejuvenating design impulses to transform material. In this setting the hand serves as instrument of thought and prop for product of labor.
