Anne Wilson’s walking performances (2008 – 2012)

In the past several years I have choreographed 3 movement performances based on the repetitive actions of making a weaving warp. A critical foundation of this work is the performance of labor as a meditation on the complex subject of textile production today.

This exhibition allows for an opportunity to view composites of still images from each performance, to explore the visuality of collaborative processes in the re-interpretation of functional production. The performances are all collaborative in different ways and speak to the global crisis of textile production. The first performance was at the Rhona Hoffman Gallery, Chicago in 2008; the second performance was at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston in 2010; and the third performance was at the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester, England in 2012.
